We believe that typology can only be properly approached through the lens of depth psychology. There exist several derivative systems to classic frameworks which attempt to define personality and its essence through various methods: ranging from behaviorism to information metabolization. However, those systems hold no true connection to one's personality and the causes behind it. For personality can only be truly discovered through the exploration of the unconscious and the phenomena which arise from inner conflicts between the layers of the psyche.
Aside from the aforementioned derivative systems, many frameworks have come to the conclusion that personality is an effect of neurosis: something Freud defined as a psychic disorder and imbalance, expressions of unconscious wishes and resistances through means which are acceptable and not repressed by the psyche. Several other theories frame neuroses in a different light, such as Karen Horney who thought them to be a result of self-idealization, or Claudio Naranjo who compared them to an insatiable and persistent instinctual need. All of those theories unite in their exploration of the deeper layers of the psyche. They don't simply look at the symptoms; they look at the causes behind them, something which Freud continually encouraged in his psychoanalytic teachings. We as well believe that personality can only be truly understood and that typology can only be effectively applied through psychoanalytic means and the discovery of unconscious motivations and resulting neuroses.
We connect depth psychology with typology, something which Carl Jung, Claudio Naranjo, Karen Horney, or even Sigmund Freud originated. Our goal is to continue those teachings and to create a comprehensive perspective on the psyche through depth typology.
